Secondary School

Years 10-12 Assessment Policy

Assessment Extension Request Form

St John’s commenced a Junior Secondary program for Year 7 and 8 students in 2014, with Year 9 added  in 2015. Year 10 was added in 2022, and by 2024, the Secondary School will comprise Years 7 – 12. Students in these year levels enjoy a dedicated Senior area of the school.

In addition to core curriculum subjects such as English, Maths, Science and HASS, students in Years 8 to 11 are able to choose from a broad range of elective subjects. These vary from semester to semester, depending on student interests but may include Agriculture, Japanese, Food Technology, Textiles and Design, Manual Arts, Media Arts, Extension PE, Engineering, ICT, Dance, Visual Arts, Agriculture and Music. Our modern facilities are spacious and airconditioned and include specialist classrooms for relevant subjects. Individual Study Times is offered twice a week for students to work on assignments or homework under the supervision of secondary staff.

Technology is an integral part of the secondary learning process. In Year 7, students are loaned a Chromebook, and those in Years 8-11 participate in a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program. Apple iMacs are available for students to experiment with photo and movie editing and our 3D printers provide endless opportunities for creativity.

Our Secondary students have the opportunity to take part in activities including virtual debating competitions, the Duke of Edinburgh program (Bridge Award), the Opti-MINDS Creative Sustainability Challenge and the Kokoda Challenge in Brisbane.

Representative Sport:

In addition to PE and sports activities during class time, our Secondary students have gone on to represent our school in Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country at a regional and district level. Students are also invited to try out for zone level teams including soccer, touch football and basketball and enjoy participating in interschool sport.

Open Days:

Personal tours of the Junior Secondary School are available on request. In addition, there are a variety of events held throughout the school year, including a Sampling Secondary Open Day in June.
